WRAPPING UP THE 2022 GOLF SEASON

Alberta Golf has wrapped up another successful season supporting the golf industry and running events for all ages and level of players from those discovering the game to the elite performers in our province. Please enjoy the following content outlining what Alberta Golf has been up to the past few months as the golf season ended and planning for 2023 commenced. Happy holidays!


ALBERTA GOLF ANNOUNCES 2023 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE
 We are pleased to announce our Alberta Golf 2023 Provincial Championship Schedule. The Alberta Women’s Amateur Championship and Alberta Match Play Championship have dates in our schedule but location still to be determined. Here’s a look at where our championships will be held next summer.
 

UPSWING BY ALBERTA GOLF TO EXPAND OFFERINGS
Big thank you to all UpSwing members who made 2022 such a tremendous success. We started modestly with a 23 event schedule that players were able to search, find and book and you can be sure bigger things are in store for 2023.
Looking ahead, UpSwing will be at the National Women’s Show April 22 & 23 – BMO Centre/Calgary. We’ll also be at the PGA of Alberta Consumer Shows in Calgary March 18 & 19 – BMO Centre and Edmonton April 1 & 2 – Edmonton Expo Centre, “Swing” by and see us, we’ll have a special playing event for attendees.
Silvertip Golf Resort played host to our Year End event which was a fantastic conclusion to our season.

ALBERTA GOLF SUPPORTS PLAYERS IN THE 2023 ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Athlete Development Program is designed to support athletes across the province by providing programs and services that ultimately help them reach their competitive goals in the sport. Support is provided to athletes, coaches, and facilities who are committed to developing the game of golf in the province of Alberta. A successful Coaching and High Performance Summit was held in December at Earl Grey Golf Club with many of the province’s elite coaches and players in attendance.

ALBERTA GOLF SUPPORTS PGA OF ALBERTA BUYING SHOW
Alberta Golf was proud to have a booth at the PGA of Alberta Buying Show this fall in Calgary. The 3 day event was a great chance to meet face to face with industry leaders and help improve all golf offerings in our province.

LACOMBE’S BRADY MCKINLAY REFLECTS ON BREAKTHROUGH 2022 SEASON
Brady McKinlay had a breakthrough season that included winning the Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship along with 3 wins in a row in U.S. college golf. The Lacombe product is gearing up for his final season at Utah Valley University in 2023 before starting the next chapter of his golfing career.

AFTER 25 YEARS AT WOODSIDE GOLF COURSE CHRIS MCNICOL ADDS CO-OWNER TITLE
Chris McNicol started in the back shop at Woodside Golf Course in 1996, worked his way up to General Manager by 2007 and this fall bought the golf course with three other investors. Watch this video interview with Chris to learn more.

FORMER LPGA TOUR PRO JENNIFER HA HELPING TO DEVELOP CANADA’S NEXT WAVE OF TALENT
Jennifer Ha grew up in Calgary and started playing Alberta Golf events at the age of 13 and worked her way up to the LPGA Tour. Ha is now an assistant coach with Golf Canada in the NextGen program helping to develop Canada’s next wave of talent.

DUNC MILLS AND BILL NEWIS TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE ALBERTA GOLF HALL OF FAME
Two very deserving Distinguished Service Inductees Dunc Mills and Bill Newis will be entering the Alberta Golf Hall of Fame next Spring, Mills for his quarter century dedication to the The McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour and The Alberta Golfer Magazine and Newis for his near half century work in golf course design.
