Alberta’s top male amateur golfers to compete for Alberta’s top prize at historical Calgary Golf and Country Club

Alberta Golf (Calgary) – The 2021 edition of the Alberta Mens Amateur Championship tees off Tuesday at The Calgary Golf and Country Club, the oldest private course in Alberta still being played on. The club was founded in 1897 and opened on it’s current property in 1911.

The Calgary Golf and Country Club last hosted the event back in 2008. Scott Stiles claimed the titled with an impressive score of 3-under par, 281 for the then 72-hole championship.

The Alberta Golf Association and The Calgary Golf & Country Club have enjoyed a long, rich history. Mr. Doug Silverberg & Mr. Robert (Bob) Wylie have won a combined 37 Provincial Championships, including 11 Alberta Amateurs. In honour of the event and these two accomplished members of The Calgary Golf and Country Club, please join Mr. Wylie (91 years old), and Mr. Silverberg (88 years old) as honorary starters on the 1st tee at 7:45am Tuesday, July 27th as they are honoured before the competition begins.

Michael Valk won the 2020 Alberta Mens Amateur Championship at The Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club by shooting a record tying final round of 65 just blocks from where he grew up.
