The CSG are a key event in the development of Canada’s young athletes. As the best in their age group, these young competitors come to the Games having trained long and hard to be among those chosen to represent their respective province or territory and compete for the Canada Games Flag and Centennial Cup. With the Canada Games poised as a key step in the development of Canada’s future stars, Canada Games athletes are Canada’s next generation national, international and Olympic champions.

Through a prospect selection model, Alberta Golf works closely with its athletes in preparation for these games. Team Alberta for this competition is made up of 2 boys and 2 girls under the age of 19 and are supported by coaches, volunteers and mission staff.

The WCSG provides an opportunity for Alberta’s top juvenile athletes (U17) to test their athletic talent against the rest of the west. The WCSG were established in 1975 as a multi-sport event to provide development opportunities for amateur athletes and to help them advance their skills in a competitive, but friendly environment. The games serve to broaden the exposure of talented athletes and provide a training ground for national and international level competitions. The four western provinces and the three territories send teams to these games, which are held every four years.

Through a performance based selection model, Alberta Golf works closely with its athletes in preparation for these games. Team Alberta for this competition is made up of 5 boys and 5 girls under the age of 17 as of August 1, 2019. They are supported by coaches, volunteers and mission staff. The 2019 Western Canada Summer Games are being hosted by the province of Saskatchewan in Swift Current August 13-18, 2019. More information on the host can be found at 2019wcsg.ca

The Junior Ryder Cup events was established in 1992 as an annual event between the Alberta Golf Association and the Montana Golf Association. The host club rotates each year and is traditionally hosted at the Lethbridge Country Club and the Whitefish Lake Golf Club. The cross border battle has a rich history of talented youngsters who have used the event as a developmental opportunity on their competitive golf journey. Many Ryder Cup alumni have gone on to have very successful collegiate, amateur and professional golf careers.

Team Alberta for this competition is made up of 6 boys and 6 girls with two players from each age group (15 and Under, 16 and 17). Matches tied after 18 holes remain tied and there are three points up for grabs per match. The teams play for the McGlenn-McBride Cup for the boys and the Tournament Cup for the girls. In the event of a tie, co-winners are declared.
