Brandon Markiw wins 2021 Alberta Mens Mid Amateur Championship
Alberta Golf (Edmonton) – The talk all week in Edmonton was that whoever won this year’s Alberta Mens Mid Amateur Championship would have something extra special to be proud about considering they outlasted a field of 240 competitors co-hosted by The Edmonton Golf Club and the Ranch Golf and Country Club.
Brandon Markiw out of the Glencoe Golf and Country Club in Calgary started the day with a 2 shot lead on Jesse Galvon. Markiw won this title in 2018 and Galvon the following year, so the battle of these 2 past champions was on.
Markiw used a steady 36 on the front and some clutch chips and par saves on the back to keep his lead and in the end Brandon Markiw shot a 2-over 73 to win the title in very hot and very windy conditions.
Neil Thomas competed hard at his home track The Edmonton Country Club shooting a final round 70 to finish one shot back.
Jesse Galvon shot a final round 73 to finish 3rd, 2 shots back.
