Preview: 2021 Alberta Mens Mid Amateur Championship

The 2021 Alberta Mens Mid Amateur championship is set to begin Monday in Edmonton as an eye popping 240 players 25-and-over compete for a provincial championship. The demand to get into this year’s event was so great, The Ranch Golf and Country Club stepped up as a second competitive course for rounds one and two to allow an extra 120 players into the event.

Competitors will play 18 holes at either The Edmonton Country Club or The Ranch Golf and Country Club during round one and then switch to play the other course for round 2 before low 60 and ties will compete for the title during the final round at The Edmonton Country Club.

LOOKING BACK

Alex Large of Canmore shot an amazing 65 in the final round at Coyotee Creek Golf and RV Resort in Sundre to win the 2020 Alberta Mens Mid Amateur Championship.

HISTORY

The Alberta Mid Amateur Championship was first contested in 1986. Originally designed for the best players aged 40 and over the championship transitioned in 2015 to include those aged 25 and over to align with other provincial, national and international Mid Amateur competitions. There is a Mid Master contest for those aged 40 and over.

FAST FACTS

This year’s tournament will be played under Covid-19 protocols. Some of the main competition changes that will remain from year will be leaving the flagstick in at all times and offering free relief from disturbed areas in bunkers.
