2009 PGA Tour and LPGA Q-School Complete

Adrienne White of Red Deer, AB (pictured above) was able to secure conditional status on the LPGA Tour. Adrienne shot a final round 3-over 75 to finish tied for 22nd. Barrett Jarosch of Edmonton, AB secured his Nationwide Tour Card after 1 final round 2-over to finish tied for 64th. Full leaderboards can be found at PGA Q-School here and LPGA Q-School here.

2009 Distinguished Service Awards

The Alberta Golf Association is proud to announce that Jack Brooks, Babe McAvoy and Ken Sharratt will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to golf in Alberta as they will receive the association’s 2009 Distinguished Service Awards. A full press release can be found here.

Albertan's Look to Continue Success at Q-School

Golf demonstration held at Special Olympics Alberta AGM

Alberta Golf participated in the sport demonstrations held at the Special Olympics Alberta AGM held on October 17, 2009 at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel. Athletes had the opportunity to hit some putts on our putting green for prizes which proved to be very exciting for the athletes, coaches, and administrators. A full press release can be found here.

Alberta Golf is now on Facebook and Twitter!

Alberta Golf has created a “page” on Facebook that allows us to post photos, list tournaments and communicate directly with “fans” that follow us on Facebook.

Twitter is an online utility that allows its members to post (Tweet) updates. Alberta Golf will use this to update its followers much like we currently do with this section of our website.

Alberta Golf Programs Making a Difference!

It is great to report that past Alberta Amateur Champion, James Love, won the Canadian Tour Championship in a playoff this month and earned a cool payday of $40,000! Wes Heffernan, past Alberta Amateur and Open Champion finished 6th.We now have 3 Albertans in the top 10 of this year’s Canadian Tour Order of Merit – Stuart Anderson – 3rd; Ryan Yip – 6th; and James Love 7th. Wes Heffernan is 14th.

Van Dornick Wins RBC Insurance Senior Men's Championship

Frank Van Dornick of the Camrose GC shot a final round 73 to win the RBC Insurance Senior Men's Championship at the Highwood GCC. Frank won by an impressive 13 strokes and is only the second player ever to win the Alberta Amateur, Mid Amateur, and Senior titles. A full press release can be found here.

Scott Stiles looks to defend his title at the Sun Life Financial Men's Amateur Championship at his home course this week at the Bearspaw CC. Last weeks Junior Championships saw Kelly Amundrud of the Calgary GCC take home the Girls title while Dillon Batsel of the Connaught GC won the boys. Jessica Luciuk of the Barrhead GC won her 5th Sun Life Financial Alberta Ladies Amateur Championship today. Luciuk finished her round with a birdie on 17 and 18 to win over second round leader Breanne Neufeld. Click here for full results.

Women Scale Summit for Success
Challenged by declining participation in its competitive events, the Alberta Golf Association introduced the first Alberta Women’s Golf Summit, Conference and Tradeshow on May 29th and 30th. Full Story- 06/03/09

The Alberta Open presented by Fidelity Investments was won today by Ryan Yip after shooting a solid final round 70 to finish at 13-under par one stroke ahead of Ryan Vallely. Full results can be found here. 05/28/09

The Canada Games Prospects and coaches gathered at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Phoenix AZ for an early season tournament preparation camp and to compete in an IJGT tournament. Scholarship Seminar a Success

Alberta Golf hosted another successful Scholarship Seminar over the weekend. The event took place at the Mount Royal College in Calgary with upwards of 70 attendees. The presenters discussed everything from opportunities and obstacles to the entire process of getting started in the right direction. The participants were able to ask questions throughout the day which should make there pursuit of a post secondary education much smoother... The full press release can be found below.

Alberta Alumni Succeed on Pro Tours

February 10, 2009

A number of Albertans have had great finishes on the pro circuit in the last few weeks. Dustin Risdon of Strathmore finished 10th on a Nationwide Event this past weekend winning $15,000. James Love of Calgary lost in a playoff on a Gateway Tour event January but still won $13,500. Barrett Jarosch of Edmonton finished 3rd this past weekend on the Gateway Tour picking up a cheque for $10,200.

On Thursday, January 29th, Tourism Calgary kicked off the start of what will be an unprecedented sporting year for the city with a fun ‘Sportspiel’ featuring top athletes competing at Olympic Plaza on a sheet of curling ice. 2008 Alberta Mid Master Champion Kim Carrington helped kick off the event. Chinook Golfer Partners with AGA

The Alberta Golf Association is excited to announce that the Chinook Golfer magazine has agreed in principle to become a contributing sponsor of the 2009 Alberta Golf Women's Summit, Conference and Tradeshow to be held May 29-30, 2009 at the Mayfield Inn, Edmonton.

"The transition of the Calgary Golfer Newspaper to becoming the Chinook Golfer magazine will continue to provide golfers in southern Alberta with terrific golf updates and profiles on courses and personalities on our industry. Our past relationship with the Calgary Golfer was outstanding and we are looking forward to being engaged with such a professional group as the Chinook Golfer," said Brent Ellenton, Alberta Golf Association's executive director.

In 2009, the Chinook Golfer will publish a Spring and Summer issue. Copies will be available at golf courses and other highly visible public areas.
